Victor Abreu

Supervisory AFD, Capital Trial Unit

Mr. Abreu is the Supervisory Assistant Federal Defender in charge of the Federal Capital Trial Unit of the Federal Community Defender Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. His unit represents indigent people facing federal capital prosecution throughout the United States. Mr. Abreu was formerly Deputy Chief of the office’s Capital Habeas Unit, where he represented men and women on death row in state and federal post-conviction proceedings from 1999 until 2018. He began his legal career as an Assistant Defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia and then spent three years as an Assistant Federal Defender in the Sothern District of Texas. From 2009 to 2018, Mr. Abreu also served as an Adjunct Professor at Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law in Philadelphia. He is a 1993 graduate of the City University of New York School of Law.
