Jonathan McDonald

Assistant Federal Defender

Jonathan McDonald joined the Federal Community Defender Office as an Assistant Federal Defender in the Trial Unit in 2022.  He previously worked in private practice in Pennsylvania for seven years, handling cases in state and federal court, including homicides, white collar crimes, human trafficking, sex offenses, firearm offenses, drug trafficking, arson, assaults, fraud, and other charges.  He also served as a Public Defender for the Defender Association of Philadelphia from 2010 to 2015, and the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office from 2009 to 2010.  Mr. McDonald graduated from Lehigh University in 2003 with a major in International Relations and minors in Economics and Spanish.  After college, he worked with at-risk youth in Eagle County, Colorado, as a director of a mentor program, and conducted health insurance outreach to under- and uninsured children in the mountain counties of Colorado, before obtaining his J.D. at Widener University School of Law in 2009.
